Regional Rail Link too slow, says former Nationals leader Tim Fischer…

This is the headline that appeared in The Age, Victoria on 7th October 2015.

Rail Tube asked Tim Fischer for his added thoughts on the matter…

This is his reply…

“THEY will say ultimate electrification to Melton or Bacchus Marsh along with eventual quadruplication from Caroline Springs to Sunshine will lesson the need for a flyover but this is not true.

All trains from Geelong will remain in conflict with all trains to Ballarat unless a rail flyover as originally planned is built at Choke Point Charlie or Deer Park West.

Why do we get near to rail nirvana and then almost always stuff it up at the last stage, in this case RRL was under budget and millions were sent back from Victoria to Canberra thanks to one senior State Public Servant dropping the rail flyover at the world’s newest Irish Broad gauge commuter rail junction.

Finally the severe restriction to 65 kph for all trains to and from Geelong turning out at Choke Point Charlie needs addressing.”  ENDS
