Department for Transport provides further grant funding to support the transportation of freight by rail and water

The Department for Transport has made the following awards from the Sustainable Distribution Fund following the December 2016 Bid Round. Funding provided relates to the financial year 2017-18 and 2018-19. It is designed to support the carriage of freight by rail and water that would otherwise be carried by road. Support for 2017-18 is expected to remove up to 796,854 lorry journeys from the roads of Great Britain achieving environmental benefits in excess of 5:1 and for 2018-19, the support is expected to remove 776,467 lorry journeys from the roads of Great Britain achieving environmental benefits in excess of 6:1

Rail Tube contacted John Smith Managing Director GBRf about the grant system, and the varying awards….He commented that….

“….Mode Shift Revenue Support Scheme (MSRS). It’s allocated on the basis of enviromental and economic benefits. The pot for it is limited and reducing which is of concern to the market. It is the only revenue support scheme currently available to us.”
