Stadler ,in a competition at the open day found a name for his new vehicle family of high-speed trains: SMILE. The world’s first mass-low-floor high speed trainset, which previously ran at Stadler under the technical name EC250 was presented to the general public on roll-out on 18 May in Bussnang in the presence of the SBB and the Swiss President Doris Leuthard. SBB has ordered the first train operator 29 of these trains and calls them “Giruno”. The SMILE stands in a row with the successful Stadler products FLIRT, KISS and TANGO.

To mark the 75th anniversary of Stadler has hosted the Open Day on May 20 at the locations Bussnang, Altenrhein and Winterthur a naming competition for the new high-speed train. a more than 4,000 name suggestions were. The winning entry was submitted SMILE 37 times – as a winner was drawn Peter Bruggmann from Sulgen (TG). The SMILE soon

The SMILE is the first high-speed train from Stadler. It can travel at up to 250 km / h. SBB ordered the first 29 of these trains and drive it from December 2019 through the Gotthard Base Tunnel. Said by SBB Giruno train connects only Zurich with Milan and later Frankfurt Milan. Apart from Switzerland, it will get the approval for Germany, Italy and Austria.

The SMILE has been developed with a focus on comfort and customer convenience, particularly for families, seniors and persons with reduced mobility.
