Network Rail is inviting residents in Spondon to find out more about work taking place to upgrade a level crossing as part of the Derby resignalling project.
The work will mean users will benefit from reduced waiting times and a shorter crossing, as well as an improved road alignment and pavement. The work will see the installation of the latest obstacle detection technology in place of the manual operation of the crossing by a signaller, which will help streamline train movements through the area and create a more modern railway.
To allow the work to take place, Spondon level crossing will be closed to motorists from Saturday, 14 July until Monday, 8 October with a clearly signposted diversionary route in place. The pedestrian footbridge will remain open throughout the work and local arrangements will be made to escort people with reduced mobility who are unable to use the footbridge across.
For those wishing to find out more about the work, Network Rail is holding a public information event on Saturday, 9 June between 13:00 and 15:00 at Spondon Army Cadet Centre. Representatives from Network Rail will be on hand to answer any questions which residents may have.
Anyone who can’t make the event but wants to learn more about the work can call the Network Rail National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41. Network Rail has also released an animated video for people to learn more about the Derby resignalling project – https://www.youtube.com/
