Stadler wins Taylor-made contract in Slovakia.(Stadler)

Stadler is for the Slovak railway company ŽSSK (Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, as, Slovakia) and GTW provide a multifunctional gear adhesion locomotive five gear-adhesion multiple units of the type. The vehicles will come in 2022 on the gear and Adhäsionsnetz the meter-gauge electric TEŽ mountain railways in the High Tatras, the smallest high mountain range in the world, are used.

Peter Jenelten, executive vice president of Stadler Rail Group, at the contract signing ceremony in Strba, Slovakia, said: 

“We are delighted to have won this tender and that we can thus provide the new generation of reliable, safe and comfortable GTW vehicles for TEŽ. Both the train operators and passengers will benefit from the modern vehicles alike. We are particularly proud that we were able to build with this order to the common, successful history with the customer ŽSSK in the High Tatras.” 

Convenient and universal vehiclesAt the appointed passenger vehicles is the latest generation of low-floor railcar GTW, specially adapted for a combined gear and adhesion operation. Such universal vehicles are already being used successfully in France and Switzerland. The five new multiple units each provide 91 seats, 2 places for wheelchairs and multifunction areas for bicycles and prams. They are equipped with Wi-Fi, air-conditioned, have a modern passenger information system as well as a video system and a Passagierzählanlage. Thanks to the low-floor design, they allow easy, flat entry and exit of passengers.

The multifunctional locomotive has both an electric drive as well as a diesel motor, which met the emission requirements according to EURO-IIIB. It can be used on the Adhäsionstrecken and gear routes. In winter, the locomotive can drive a plow and clear the TEZ routes from snow-free. The engineer’s cabs are equipped with air conditioning. The vehicle can also be remotely controlled via radio transmission. Similar work vehicles are used on the mountain roads in Switzerland and in Spain.
