SBB and Stadler have signed a contract for the delivery of seven new trains FLIRT for around 65 million francs. As of December 2020, the SBB takes over the line Bern-La Chaux-de-Fonds of the BLS. The new, from the SBB “Mouette” (French. For Seagull) mentioned, trains come on this route is used.
Toni Häne, Head of SBB Passenger and Thomas Ahlburg, Group CEO of Stadler, have signed a contract for the supply of seven four-part FLIRT trains in Zurich.
As of December 2020, the SBB integrated under the new long-distance concession the line Bern-La Chaux-de-Fonds as IR66 in its long-distance network. Thus the Neuchâtel Jura to the Switzerland-wide long-distance SBB is connected. SBB procured for new single-storey, strong spurt and disabled vehicles. The seven new trains called Mouette be from 2019 to 2021 built in a comfortable long-distance version. The train has four parts and has 27 seats in the first class (2 + 1 seating) and 154 seats in the 2nd class. All seats are equipped with an electrical outlet. At peak hours the Mouettes can be coupled to provide sufficient seating. In the off-rush hour trains can be made shorter and thus help to save energy and money to help.
The contract was awarded by private treaty under public procurement law. The contract includes an option for seven more vehicles.
